Roof Tiler

AI Talent is seeking a qualified and hardworking Roof Tiler to join our construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for covering roofs with tiles, shingles, and sheets to form a durable and waterproof surface. You will work across both residential and commercial projects, ensuring roofing is installed according to safety standards and design specifications. This is a hands-on role that requires precision, physical stamina, and experience working at heights. Registration or licensing may be required.

Responsibilities:

Study architectural drawings, specifications, and work sites to determine the materials, tools, and methods required for roofing tasks

Erect scaffolding, ladders, and safety equipment to ensure safe access to roofs

Place and secure waterproof sheeting over eaves to protect structures from water damage

Nail or staple roofing underlay to roof surfaces as a base layer

Align and secure starter rows of tiles or shingles along the roof's edge using nails, staples, or wire, and continue layering upward with proper overlap

Cut tiles and roofing materials to fit around chimneys, skylights, vents, ridges, and other roof features

Fix ridge and edge tiles in cement mortar to ensure proper sealing and a clean finish

Slip roofing materials under pre-installed flashing and fasten into place to maintain waterproofing

Caulk and flash over exposed nail heads and joints to prevent water infiltration

Inspect completed roof areas to ensure alignment, weatherproofing, and compliance with project requirements

Maintain tools, equipment, and clean-up of work areas after completion

Qualifications and Skills:

AQF Certificate III in Roof Tiling (or equivalent), including at least two years of on-the-job training

Alternatively, three years of relevant work experience may substitute for formal qualifications

ANZSCO Skill Level 3

Proven experience in roof tiling, with the ability to handle different roofing materials including tiles, shingles, and sheets

Strong understanding of roofing systems, underlay installation, flashing, and waterproofing techniques

Comfortable working at heights with knowledge of safety procedures and equipment

Physically fit and able to lift, carry, and manoeuvre heavy materials

Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow design specifications and installation plans

Good communication and teamwork skills

Registration or licensing may be required depending on state or project scope
