About this role

The Dean of Students (Secondary) plays a pivotal leadership role within the College, sharing in the authority and responsibility of the Principal to guide the overall direction and management of the school community.

The primary focus of this position is the pastoral care and well-being of students in Years 7–12. The Dean will work closely with staff to foster a supportive, inclusive and caring environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

You have the insight and experience to guide staff in building their capacity for pastoral care, encouraging professional growth and collaboration across the College. Your leadership style is inclusive, reflective and grounded in empathy—empowering both students and staff to achieve their best.

Duties for the different aspects of the role include:

Senior Leadership
  • Champion the College's commitment to child safety and wellbeing, ensuring alignment with national principles and College policies.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and share insights to support staff development.
  • Collaborate closely with the Principal and College leadership on strategic initiatives, staffing appointments, and appraisals.
  • Oversee behaviour management processes, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and regular policy review. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of AITSL Professional Standards and maintain engagement with AISWA and Christian Schools Australia.
Staff Leadership
  • Lead and support Heads of Year in fulfilling their responsibilities in line with College policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate the College's extra-curricular program, ensuring a diverse range of opportunities for student participation.
  • Plan and promote staff professional learning in student wellbeing and pastoral care.
  • Support communication between staff and parents/carers, ensuring clarity and responsiveness.
  • Contribute to staff induction and wellbeing programs, fostering a supportive and collaborative workplace culture.
Student Wellbeing and Development
  • Lead a vibrant and effective pastoral care program that supports the social, emotional wellbeing and personal development of students.
  • Oversee programs run by Heads of Year, ensuring smooth transitions, strong attendance, and proactive support for student needs.
  • Coordinate initiatives that promote positive behaviour, student engagement, and goal setting, in partnership with staff and families.
  • Implement the College's Mental Health Strategy and student leadership programs.
  • Promote the College's Christian values and Affirmation across the student body.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to support learning, differentiation, and wellbeing in the classroom.
  • Plan and deliver programs and events that enhance student wellbeing, behaviour, and leadership.

  • Ability to plan strategically using innovative thinking
  • Expertise in pastoral care and student wellbeing
  • Ability to resolve complex issues and equipped with excellent organisational skills
