About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Wildlife Veterinarian to join our onsite veterinary team on a full-time basis. Availability on weekends and public holidays is essential.

You will be responsible for providing high-quality veterinary care to a diverse range of native Australian wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, wombats, reptiles, and various bird species as well as a small number of domestic livestock species.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine health checks, diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries.
  • Provide emergency care to injured or unwell sanctuary animals as well as incoming injured wildlife.
  • Collaborate closely with the senior veterinarian, keepers, vet nurses, and management on animal health and welfare matters.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and contribute to ongoing welfare initiatives.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of wildlife team members.
  • Be involved in maintaining established biosecurity measures and modification and maintenance of the preventative health schedule.
  • Perform post mortem examinations on all deceased sanctuary animals.

What We're Looking For:

  • A degree in Veterinary Science and registration (or eligibility) with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland.
  • A minimum of 2 years' veterinary experience with a preference to those with Australian wildlife and/or mixed practice experience.
  • Experience with Australian wildlife husbandry, orphan care and koala browse species also preferred.
  • Confidence in medical, clinical pathology and surgical procedures.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with good presentation.
  • Flexibility to work across a 7-day week, including weekends and public holidays.
  • A category H weapons licence or eligibility to attain one.
  • Tetanus, Rabies and Q Fever vaccinations or a willingness to be vaccinated.
  • Must be fit and healthy.
