As the
Station Chemist
, you'll play a critical part in maintaining the plant's operational reliability and efficiency. You'll bring your expertise in chemistry, water treatment, or process operations to provide technical oversight, guide investigations, and support continuous improvement across the site. This role suits someone who enjoys variety, values autonomy, and is motivated by seeing the results of their work directly impact plant performance.
About the Role
Reporting to the External Resources Manager, you'll take the lead on all matters related to water chemistry, testing, and process optimisation. Your ability to diagnose issues, identify improvements, and implement practical solutions will be key to your success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting in-field sampling, testing, and technical investigations
- Managing and liaising with the water treatment contractor
- Analysing test results and recommending process or plant improvements
- Providing specialist advice and technical support to operations
- Ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and operational standards
- Building strong working relationships across the plant and with third-party contractors
About You
You're someone who takes initiative and enjoys being the go-to person for technical advice. You're confident in your knowledge, make sound decisions, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You'll bring:
- A degree in Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
- Experience in a power station, refinery, or process plant environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with others
- Experience leading or coordinating third-party contractors
- A commitment to continuous improvement and high operational standards
