The Northern Specialist Family Violence Service (NSFVS) is the lead provider for the integrated family violence service system in the Northern Metropolitan sub-region. The NSFVS provides support services to victim survivors of family violence and their children inclusive of cis gendered heterosexual women and, their children; and people from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer Community (LGBTIQ+) and their children.

We help victim survivors stay in their community safely wherever possible to live a life free of violence, while also addressing their emotional and practical needs and issues arising from the violence.

We know it is important that people are listened to, believed, and treated with respect. We help our service users to review their situation, resources and strengths and support them to make their own decisions about their circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

The primary objective of Specialist Family Violence Practitioner is to:

  • Completing Comprehensive risk assessments with adult victim survivors and children in accordance with Victoria's Multi Agency Risk assessment and Management (MARAM) framework.
  • In consultation with victim survivors identify specialist family violence goals which can be achieved within a time limited support.
  • Provision of outreach to victims' survivors inclusive of their children both in office settings and settings in the community assessed as appropriate and safe for both pracitioner and victim survivor.
  • Support the broader Specialist family Violence Response- Communities team as required, including providing specialist family violence response to victim survivors who access our services via an outpost.
  • This team operates within a collaborative and supportive team environment with a strong focus on partnerships with relevant external organizations.
  • Participate in supervision and reflective practice to support self and maintain best outcomes for victim survivors.

About You

A minimum Bachelor level qualification in Social Work or equivalency met through the 7 Equivalency Principles in line with the minimum mandatory qualification requirements. Please see for further information.

  • Have an understanding of the gendered nature of family violence and its impact on women and their children.
  • The specialised level of this role will require the ability to be able to reflect and analyse complex situations arising in specialist family violence casework and the commitment to working.
  • Collaboratively with the capacity to negotiate and liaise with other agencies and the community.
