Adelaide, South Australia The University of Adelaide Full time

(HEO7) $101,785 - $113,839 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

Fixed term, part-time position (0.5FTE) until August 2028.

The Geomodelling Laboratory Manager plays a key role in overseeing the daily operations of the University's new Geomodelling Laboratory, ensuring safe, efficient and innovative support for cutting-edge Earth Sciences research and teaching.

Working under limited direction and with significant autonomy, the Laboratory Manager leads the technical operation, development and maintenance of specialised crustal deformation and fluid-flow modelling equipment that underpin advanced research in Underground Hydrogen and CO₂ storage. The role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with leading researchers and postgraduate students, contribute to the design and execution of complex physical modelling experiments, and support teaching and outreach activities in a modern, purpose-built facility. The Laboratory Manager will engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including academic staff, students, technical services teams, and industry collaborators. Candidates should expect to manage equipment procurement and maintenance, develop laboratory procedures, provide inductions and training, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and University policies. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys both independent work and collaborative problem-solving within a dynamic research setting.

To be successful you will need:

  • Experience in laboratory operations/management and instrumentation in physical modelling applied to the Earth Sciences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the procedures, regulations and standards relating to the conduct of physical deformation rig experiments.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changes in priorities.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in designing physical modelling experiments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
