Working at Transurban is different; it's a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city-sized solutions-building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads-to solve pressing transport challenges that are slowing cities down.
About the role
Shape the future of our technology platforms. We're looking for a technically sharp, solutions-driven Environment Engineer to support and uplift our non-production environments across the Tolling and Customer (GLIDe) Platform. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on environment configuration, automation, and performance optimisation. You'll play a key role in enabling efficient change delivery, reducing operational effort, and driving innovation across our platform ecosystem.
Day-to-day, you will:
- Manage and maintain cloud-based and on-premises environments to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability
- Contribute to the Environment Management & Governance strategy, including patching, scheduling, data management, and documentation
- Automate infrastructure tasks using approved toolsets such as Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes
- Act as a point of contact for environment-related incidents and problem resolution
- Collaborate with Solution Architects, Delivery Leads, and Engineers to shape the platform technology roadmap
- Support defect remediation, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Champion engineering standards and foster a "culture of quality" across teams
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders to align technical delivery with strategic goals
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:
- Tertiary qualifications in systems engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline
- 5+ years' experience in IT infrastructure, including AWS and on-prem environments
- Strong technical skills with development tooling (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub, Eclipse) and DevOps practices
- Hands-on experience in cloud security, compliance, and infrastructure automation
- Proven ability to define and drive complex technical initiatives
- Experience with technologies such as Oracle DBs, JAVA middleware, AWS EC2/S3/DynamoDB, SQL Server, .NET, Splunk, and API-driven development
- Familiarity with software development tools and methodologies (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow)
- Exposure to innovative technology practices and a commitment to operational excellence
If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.
With a career at Transurban, you'll enjoy a range of benefits, including:
- Flexible working options, including the ability to purchase up to six weeks of additional leave each year
- 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), plus superannuation on unpaid leave
- Career growth and leadership development opportunities
- Wellbeing support-from Headspace to EAP and wellness facilities
- Share offers and discounted insurance benefits
- Team social events, volunteer days, and community give-back initiatives
We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.
We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience - whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.
We strongly encourage applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people living with disability. If you require any adjustments or support during the recruitment process, please contact us on
