As an Animal Technician, your role will be supporting cutting-edge research and teaching activities. You'll have the opportunity to care for and manage a variety of laboratory species, ensuring their health and wellbeing while assisting researchers and academics. Your expertise will contribute directly to scientific advancements in medicine, dentistry, and health services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Animal Care and Welfare: Provide daily care, monitor health, perform euthanasia when required, and ensure the wellbeing of research animals.

  • Research Support: Assist in preparing animals for procedures, maintain colonies, and ensure compliance with ethical standards.

  • Facility Management: Maintain clean and safe environments, manage inventory, and adhere to regulatory policies.

  • Collaboration and Training: Work closely with researchers, participate in training activities, and contribute to a team-oriented environment.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a compassionate and detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to animal welfare, the ability to work effectively in a team environment supporting scientific research, and be flexible with working arrangements (including weekend and public holiday shift work.)

You may also:

  • Hold a Diploma of Animal Technology or equivalent qualification.

  • Have demonstrated experience in animal handling techniques and maintaining accurate records.

  • Possess knowledge of regulatory systems governing animal research, including relevant Codes of Practice.

  • Show excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

  • Have practical experience in a research setting and familiarity with quarantine requirements and breeding programs.

  • Be comfortable with physical activities including manual handling and animal restraint.

  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently when required.
