Suncoast Christian College is a well-established pre-prep to Year 12 co-educational College of over 1000 students, situated on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. The College is excited to announce that we have a 0.6FTE opportunity available, commencing January 2026, for a dedicated and experienced Middle Years Wellbeing and Support Teacher.

This is a new role to the College and will play a critical role in supporting the mental health, wellbeing and learning outcomes of students in Years 9 and 10. This role focuses on fostering resilience, emotional regulation and positive relationships while delivering targeted academic support in literacy and numeracy. The Middle Years Wellbeing and Support Teacher will provide targeted intervention to Tier 2 and Tier 3 students through small-group and individualised support, while working collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals to improve student outcomes.

A key responsibility is supporting teachers and teacher aides with delivering explicit, scaffolded literacy instruction in a safe and supportive environment that promotes both academic progress and emotional wellbeing. This role will have a teaching load which will be discussed with the successful candidate.

Duties and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Identify early signs of mental health concerns or students at risk of disengagement and provide timely intervention in collaboration with the school wellbeing team, counsellors, and external agencies.
  • Facilitate restorative conversations and conflict resolution to support healthy peer relationships.
  • Counselling/case managing students of concern in the middle year's cohort.
  • Deliver small group sessions and one-on-one interventions to support skill development, self-regulation, and positive behaviour.
  • Adapt curriculum content, teaching methods, and assessment to meet diverse student needs.
  • Understand the academic, social and emotional needs of Year 9 and 10 students.
  • Understand NCCD documentation and implementation of adjustments for students with disabilities.
  • Integrate literacy and wellbeing goals, recognising the connection between emotional readiness and academic success.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to implement strategies that strengthen student engagement and learning success.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, colleagues, caregivers, and allied health professionals regarding student wellbeing and progress.
  • Collaborate with the Wellbeing, YLC and Learning Support teams to ensure coordinated, holistic care for students.
  • Participate in case meetings, Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Learning Profiles (LPs) and wellbeing reviews.
  • Encourage engagement and use creative strategies, practical activities, and scaffolding to build confidence.
  • Promote independence by gradually releasing responsibility to students to build self-regulation and resilience.

Skills and experience required:


• Registration as a teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers.


• Additional qualifications in counselling, inclusion, psychology, social work or related fields is essential.


• Strong understanding of DSE (Disability Standards for Education), DDA (Disability Discrimination Act), NCCD, ACARA, and trauma-informed practice.


• Demonstrated understanding of the learning, social-emotional, and behavioural needs of Middle Years students.


• Experience in restorative practices and leading Response To Intervention (RTI) approaches.


• Experience in delivering Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, including academic, behavioural, and wellbeing interventions.


• Solid knowledge of positive behaviour support frameworks and evidence-based intervention strategies.
