Maildaburra is a family-owned Poll Hereford Stud and feedlot operation on the beautiful West Coast of South Australia. With 150 breeding cows and a 380-head feedlot, our focus is on breeding top-performing cattle and producing high-quality beef for various markets.
We're located just 20 km from the welcoming township of Wirrulla, with spectacular beaches around 30 minutes away, world-class fishing, and the Gawler Ranges nearby for camping and outdoor adventures. A small country school (playgroup to Year 10) is literally in our back paddock — making this an incredible lifestyle opportunity for a young family.
The OpportunityWe're looking for a passionate and driven Livestock Overseer to take real ownership of the daily running of our stud and feedlot. This is a hands-on leadership role, working closely with the owner Carolyn and managing one farmhand.
For the right person, there is potential for equity in the business after 12 months of success in the role.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a role where your work truly matters and where you'll have the autonomy to influence both stud and feedlot operations.
Key Responsibilities- Full day-to-day responsibility for the Poll Hereford stud ( 150 breeders) and 380-head feedlot
- Manage and lead one full-time farmhand
- Hands-on cattle management, including calving, weaning, bull selection, and feedlot operations
- Integrate purchased stock into the feedlot and prepare cattle for sale
- Oversee animal health, welfare, nutrition, and performance standards
- Manage general farm work (spraying, maintenance, pastures)
- Maintain accurate livestock and operational records
- Proactively drive improvements to lift performance year on year
- Assist with cropping-related activities including grain carting, spraying, and monitoring pastures and fodder crops to support feedlot and stud operations
- A positive, solutions-focused attitude and genuine passion for working with cattle
- At least 2 years' experience in cattle management (stud or feedlot experience highly regarded)
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently and manage others
- Good record-keeping and computer literacy (HerdMaster, Excel, etc.)
- Strong initiative with excellent communication skills
- A current Australian MC or HC driver's licence (or willingness to obtain one) is highly desirable. Applicants must also have full working rights in Australia. Please note: this role is not suitable for those on an 88-day visa.
