About the opportunity
We are seeking two Senior Urban Planners to contribute to the delivery of innovative, evidence-based urban planning strategies and policy development on a permanent, full-time basis.

- Prepare and review planning strategies, policies and environmental planning instruments
- Contribute to Council's submissions on State Government initiatives
- Undertake research and analysis to support strategic planning priorities
- Provide professional advice to internal and external stakeholders on urban planning matters.

Qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Degree qualifications in planning or a relevant or related field
- Solid work experience in urban planning or a related field
- Demonstrated experience preparing written documents and professional reports that communicate sometimes complex concepts in plain English to a diverse audience
- Demonstrated knowledge of urban planning issues and discourse supported by critical analysis and evaluation skills that support research activities, report writing, decision making and other operational and strategic outcomes
- Demonstrated information technology, data analysis, research, analytical and other problem-solving skills to generate innovative solutions to sometimes conflicting objectives
- Demonstrated oral communication skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of internal and external customers
- Demonstrated negotiation and dispute resolution skills with the ability to proactively engage with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects relating to the urban environment, on time and within budget
- Demonstrated knowledge of the New South Wales Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993 and other relevant legislation, regulations, state planning policies and instruments
- Current Class C driver's licence.
Desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field
- Experience with community engagement
- Understanding of Land and Environment Court procedures
- Experience in the development of new planning strategies
- Experience working as a planner in Local Government and/or State Government.
Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council's Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $2,252.09 per week
- 35-hour working week
- Car allowance
- Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
