Full-time (37.5 hours per week) on a 3 year fixed-term appointment

The Research and Scholarship Director provides academic leadership in fostering a culture of scholarship, innovation, and high-impact research at IMC. This role is pivotal in enhancing research capabilities and driving excellence in academic staff contributions across teaching, scholarship, and engagement. The position also serves as a strategic lead for postgraduate research programs, ensuring their academic integrity and continual improvement. The role can include coursework teaching within an AQF9 research training course.

Research Leadership

• Champion the development of IMC's research strategy, aligned with national priorities and industry relevance
• Support academic staff in developing scholarly outputs, grant applications, and collaborative research projects
• Facilitate research clusters or thematic groups to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation
• Oversee the development of IMC's research infrastructure, including policies, repositories, and internal support systems

Scholarship of Learning and Teaching

• Lead initiatives to foster scholarly teaching and continuous improvement in pedagogy
• Facilitate workshops, peer reviews, and mentorship programs to build staff capacity in scholarly practice
• Encourage the dissemination of teaching innovations through publications, conferences, and sector engagement

Oversight of Postgraduate Research Programs

• Provide strategic oversight of IMC's postgraduate research courses, ensuring quality and alignment with academic standards
• Coordinate the recruitment and selection of suitably qualified research supervisors
• Design and implement induction and professional development programs to support research supervisors
• Manage supervisor allocation to student research projects, ensuring appropriate expertise and academic alignment
• Provide mentorship to supervisors to foster professional growth and research excellence
• Monitor and review supervisor performance to ensure continuous improvement and uphold supervisory standards

Academic Contribution and Engagement

• Represent IMC's research and scholarship agenda in external forums, partnerships, and collaborative networks
• Promote research-informed teaching and contribute to curriculum development in areas of expertise
• Support the development of a scholarly culture that values inquiry, ethics, and impact

Operational Commitments

• Prepare reports on research and scholarly activity, and research integrity, for the Research and Scholarship Committee (RSC) and be an active member of that committee
• Collaborate effectively with academic leaders and senior management in supporting IMC's research strategy
• Be physically present on campus at least three days per week and at other times when needed (e.g. RSC meetings)

Successful applicants will need:

• Possession of a doctoral degree (PhD, DBA or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is a mandatory requirement.
• Demonstrated academic leadership in research or scholarship of teaching and learning
• Proven experience managing research programs or supervision frameworks within a tertiary institution
• Strong track record of scholarly output, grant acquisition, or curriculum innovation
• Capacity to mentor academic staff and build scholarly capability across disciplines
• Knowledge of the regulatory and ethical frameworks concerning higher education and research in Australia, particularly within the business, law, and IT disciplines
• Exceptional communication, collaboration, and strategic planning skills
• Residency in Sydney and ability to meet on-campus obligations
