What is the role?
Have you been looking for an opportunity that offers meaningful work, allows you to showcase your professionalism, stakeholder engagement skills, and your ability to make things happen to support senior executives? The Executive Support Team (EST), within International Command, is looking for individuals to fill vacancies at the Band 7 level (Team Leader). The team provides support to AFP senior executives and supports the AFP's engagement with international stakeholders. Successful candidates will gain a high level of visibility of the breadth of the AFP's mission and objectives - particularly on national security and international matters - and will liaise with stakeholders across the organisation as well as other government departments. As a Team Leader, you will play a fundamental role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below. You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. What will you do? The Team Leader EST will be required to respond to, and/or delegate, a diverse range of requests, tasks or projects, often within significantly short time frames. They will support the team in delivering high level outcomes and products, ensuring the fair and appropriate distribution of work aligned to the capabilities and/or development opportunities of the team members.
A successful applicant will be required to:
- Lead and support the EST in delivering high-level briefing material and talking points for the AFP and IC Executive relating to national and international forums and meetings.
- Lead ministerial, parliamentary, policy and media responses on matters relating to the AFP's international presence.
- Engage with Whole of Australian Government partners and provide high level advice and assistance to inform the development of Whole of Australian Government policy documents and briefs.
- Maintain and build collective subject matter expertise and develop strategies with the team to ensure products are consistent, high quality and meeting stakeholder expectations.
- Represent IC's and the broader AFP's interests at internal and external meetings, as required.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, support and development opportunities to team members.

- Demonstrated coordination skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, and achieve results within tight timeframes, while managing competing priorities.
- Strong writing skills and excellent attention to detail, in managing day-to-day tasks and ensuring that briefs and documents are delivered in a timely manner and are of high quality.
- An ability to communicate effectively and with influence, and where appropriate, tailoring messages according to different audiences.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills, working effectively across teams and building professional networks.
Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Strong communication (written and oral) and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to be flexible and dynamic in response to changing priorities.
- Ability to cultivate productive and effective working relationships.
- Experience working with strategic communications, business strategy and/or business support teams.
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- Tertiary qualifications in relevant field.
Additional Information
- This opportunity is a AFP Band Level 7.
- This position has been advertised in multiple locations, however, the role is located in Canberra. Successful applicants must be willing to relocate to Canberra.
