Role Overview

The API Developer will design, develop, and maintain microservices and RESTful APIs using Kong API Gateway and frameworks. The role focuses on creating reusable integration patterns, implementing secure API access controls, and ensuring seamless and scalable integrations between SOS and external systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy microservices and RESTful APIs using and/or Java frameworks.
  • Implement API gateway policies, routing, rate limiting, and security using
    Kong API Gateway
    .
  • Define and maintain
    reusable integration patterns
    and API versioning strategies to support scalability and maintainability.
  • Enforce API security standards including
    OAuth2
    ,
    JWT
    , and mutual TLS.
  • Integrate SOS systems with external platforms, ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance with enterprise integration standards.
  • Develop automated unit and integration tests for APIs to ensure robustness and stability.
  • Collaborate with architecture, security, and DevOps teams to design end-to-end API lifecycle management (design, publish, secure, monitor).
  • Troubleshoot API and microservice issues and optimize performance.
  • Document API specifications using
    OpenAPI/Swagger
    and maintain up-to-date API documentation.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience in

    and/or
    Java
    for developing APIs and microservices.
  • Proficiency in
    Kong API Gateway
    – configuration, plugin development, routing, authentication, and traffic control.
  • Experience designing and implementing
    secure, scalable, and reusable API architectures
    .
  • Proficiency with
    OAuth2
    ,
    JWT
    ,
    API versioning
    , and
    integration security patterns
    .
  • Familiarity with
    containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
    and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with logging, monitoring, and performance tuning of APIs.
  • Understanding of
    RESTful API design principles
    , asynchronous integration, and error handling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with
    cloud-native API deployments
    (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Relevant certifications such as
    Kong Certified Developer
    ,
    AWS Certified Developer
    , or
    Java Developer (OCP)
    .
