At A1 Metallising Services we have spent over 60 years developing thermal spray restoration techniques that can return worn components to service at a fraction of replacement cost.
As our Engineering Estimator, you'll analyse these complex restoration challenges and develop the technical and commercial solutions that keep Australian industry operational.
You'll get to work on a variety of projects, that will combine our thermal spray coatings, laser cladding (using Australia's first Hot Wire Laser System), welding and precision machining to restore components from earth moving trucks to mining conveyors to wind turbines. In this role you're not just pricing products, you're also helping create real solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Analysis & Cost Estimation
Analyse engineering drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to develop accurate repair cost estimates and quotations.
Calculate surface areas and material requirements from technical drawings.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and suggest alternative solutions to improve profitability.
Documentation & Software Utilisation
Complete all required documentation for project work
Use estimating and scheduling software for digital take-offs and cost modelling
Work with CAD systems for drawing interpretation and technical analysis
Develop detailed timelines for repair work
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with sales manager, workshop manager, production manager, and other stakeholders to provide cost-effective solutions
Communicate technical requirements and solutions effectively with teams, clients, and suppliers
Coordinate between engineering specifications and practical workshop capabilities
This is much more accurate - it's focused on estimation, documentation, and collaboration rather than suggesting any actual project management responsibilities.
What You'll Need
Essential Skills:
Engineering / Mechanical trade background or
Fitting / Machinist trade background
Mathematics for complex calculations from drawings and specifications
Be able to read and translate engineering drawings and technical specifications
Analytical and problem-solving mindset
Excellent communication skills
Strong computer literacy with skills in CAD, Excel and Word
Self-motivated approach with ability to work independently
Highly Valued:
Knowledge of various steel types and alloy properties
Experience with SAP or similar business systems
Trade qualifications in mechanical/manufacturing fields
Sound financial understanding and commercial awareness
Previous estimating or planning experience in industrial/manufacturing environment
