Transport Service is a Group within Department of Transport & Planning, and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.

About the role

The role will provide sound advice to internal and external customers on complex matters relating to road safety, traffic, developer funded/external projects, non-road infrastructure works and road design standards while promoting a culture of innovation.

Key Selection Criteria

The role requires the ability to foster a constructive work culture by actively seeking and acting on feedback, undertake analysis and design tasks while effectively planning and delivering projects to agreed timeframes and standards, and work collaboratively with stakeholders and the community to identify problems and develop solutions aligned with organisational objectives. Strong communication skills are essential to engage, provide constructive advice, and tailor messages to meet stakeholder needs. The position also involves making informed decisions under broad supervision in line with Safe System principles and the Movement & Place framework, while applying relevant Acts, standards, and regulations to address moderately complex transport and safety matters, with a focus on innovation and improving outcomes for the community.

Position accountabilities

  • Understanding and contributing to our key culture focus areas and being aware of one's own behaviours and impact to support a constructive way of working for individuals and teams.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on various and moderately complex transport and safety matters under broad supervision and coordinate internal teams where required.
  • Work with key internal and external stakeholders to develop solutions to moderately complex transport and safety problems while aligning with key strategic objectives.
  • Understanding community and stakeholder needs to determine matters of importance and prioritise effort and workload accordingly to meet agreed timeframes and quality standards.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of network safety and operational improvements in accordance with relevant road safety standards and DoT procurement systems.
  • Interpret standards and guidelines and apply problem solving approaches and judgment in response to transport and safety matters under broad supervision while challenging traditional thinking where appropriate.
  • In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities.

Qualifications and experience

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant or a related discipline.

Ordinary hours of work

Ordinary hours of work are Monday to Friday between 7:00am and 7:00pm.

Non-VPS applicants will be subject to a probation period of six months.
