In Sydney Local Health District our vision is Excellence in health and healthcare for all. You will be working in an innovative district that celebrates and invests in the ideas of staff, values people and offers life-long careers. Join the team at one of the leading public health organisations in Australia

Are you a clinically qualified health professional with a passion for improving systems, governance, and patient outcomes, an auditor with experience in clinical settings, or an experienced auditor looking to apply their skills in a dynamic healthcare environment? Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to join our dynamic Internal Audit Team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your clinical insight in a strategic, non-clinical role that directly contributes to the quality and safety of healthcare delivery.

About the Role

As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will play a pivotal role in evaluating and enhancing SLHD's systems and processes. You'll provide expert advice on risk, control, and governance issues, helping to ensure our services are safe, efficient, and patient-centred.

This role is ideal for experienced auditors or individuals with clinical qualifications—such as nursing, allied health, or medical backgrounds—who are looking to transition into a strategic, analytical role. Audit qualifications are preferred but not essential; we value your clinical expertise and understanding of the healthcare environments.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Conduct internal audits across clinical and operational areas.
  • Identify risks and recommend practical solutions to improve patient care and system efficiency.
  • Provide high-level advice to senior management and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the development of audit methodologies.
  • Represent Internal Audit on committees and working groups.
  • Maintain detailed records and prepare professional audit reports.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in healthcare or audit.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems, governance, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A current NSW Driver's Licence and willingness to travel across the District.

Why Join Us?

At SLHD, we are committed to Patient and Family Centred Care, and we recognise that excellence in healthcare starts with highly skilled and valued staff. You'll be part of a team that supports innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates with clinical backgrounds who are passionate about improving healthcare systems and outcomes.
