Pro-Rata Salary Range of $112k Base to $130k Base (dependent on experience, skills and capabilities)

Plus 12% Superannuation and access to Not-for-Profit Salary Packaging up to $15,900. (more information provided below).

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a talented Legal Counsel to join our team of five lawyers. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a globally impactful organisation dedicated to improving health outcomes through innovative medical research.

Our successful candidate will provide legal advice, draft and negotiate contracts, manage legal risks and support TGI's requirement of legal matters. These are in areas including medical research, clinical trials, intellectual property, privacy and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents
  • Provide high-quality advice on legal and regulatory issues relevant to the organisation
  • Identify, assess, and manage legal risks across projects and collaborations, and contribute to risk mitigation strategies
  • Support the development and implementation of the Institute's data governance and privacy frameworks
  • Assist with the creation and rollout of organisational policies and procedures
  • Support the Senior Legal Counsel with ad hoc projects and day-to-day legal matters
  • Maintain and update legal templates used across The George Institute Group
  • Help manage the legal team's matter management systems, registers, and related records
  • Contribute to legal training initiatives and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Participate actively in team meetings and collaborative activities

Skills, Knowledge and Experience/ Our Successful Candidate

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in law and admission to practice as a solicitor in NSW, holding a current unsupervised practicing certificate with the Law Society of NSW
  • 2–3 years of relevant post-admission experience, ideally gained through a mix of private practice and in-house roles
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: general commercial law, privacy, intellectual property, or employment law
  • Proven ability to review, draft, and negotiate contracts, and handle general corporate matters
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and a focus on quality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
  • Strategic thinker with flexibility and adaptability in response to changing organisational priorities and global environments
