Employment Type:Fixed Term Full Time (FT)
Location:Northern Health (All Campuses)
About Northern Health:
As an organisation we have a clear focus on how we service and partner with our community, including our strategy of helping the community stay well when at home. Our reputation of community minded, inclusive and progressive is matched to none.
Northern Health is located in the rapidly growing northern suburbs with projected growth the biggest in the state. With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hour's drive from the CBD (still within the bounds of Myki and ride-sharing), Melbourne's North is fast becoming the place to be.
Grade 3 Speech Pathologist – NDIS/CHSP Services
Speech Pathology Department | Northern Health
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our five main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.
About the Role:
Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated and experienced Grade 3 Speech Pathologists to join our expanding NDIS and CHSP-funded community services, with leadership responsibilities for our Progressive Neurological Disease (PND) Clinic, including a dedicated Motor Neurone Disease (MND) caseload.
This is a 12-month parental leave backfill position, with potential opportunities for ongoing employment beyond the contract period. The role is full time in the first instance, however part time applicants would be considered and are encouraged to apply.
This role provides an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled clinician(s) with a passion for delivering person-centred, evidence-based care within the community setting. You will play a key role in service development, clinical supervision, and the delivery of best-practice intervention to clients living with progressive neurological conditions and complex communication and swallowing needs.
Working as part of the broader Allied Health team, you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive innovation and integrated care models across the community.
This position is based within the Hospital Without Walls program at Northern Health and requires experience in delivering services under NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) and CHSP (Commonwealth Home Support Programme) funding models. Clinical experience supporting clients with progressive neurological diseases, specifically MND in community-based settings is desirable.
Flexibility is required to work across Northern Health sites and in various community environments, including clients' homes, residential care, and telehealth. Staff may be required to work after hours, on weekends or public holidays, or work from home to meet operational needs. Compliance with mandatory training as per Northern Health policy is a requirement of this role.
This position is responsible for:
- Providing high-quality, person-centred assessment and management of adults with progressive neurological disorders presenting with complex communication and swallowing disorders.
- Leading and supervising speech pathology staff and students across NDIS/CHSP-funded services.
- Supporting the delivery of the PND Clinic.
- Supporting the Associate Director and Clinical Leader in the development and implementation of strategic and operational service plans.
- Representing Speech Pathology in multidisciplinary and external partnership forums.
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, quality care and professional development.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A minimum of 7 years' clinical experience, with a strong background in community, disability and/or aged care settings.
- Advanced clinical skills in managing complex swallowing and communication disorders in adults with progressive neurological conditions.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of low- and high-tech AAC systems, including assessment, implementation, and training for clients, carers, and support staff.
- Experience working within NDIS and CHSP service delivery models.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to support and supervise clinicians and students.
- Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong time management and organisational skills to manage a complex caseload and competing priorities.
- Experience contributing to service development, quality improvement or research projects.
- A collaborative and flexible approach to working across multidisciplinary teams and service settings.
- Commitment to culturally safe care and inclusion of CALD, LGBTQIA+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
- Postgraduate qualifications or working towards postgraduate study in a relevant clinical or leadership area (highly desirable).
