Backfill Lead Engineer
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Backfill Lead Engineer is responsible for designing, managing and developing the Company's backfill team, including its structure, systems, composition, capabilities, resources, and tools.
This role demands a balance of remote engineering and site-based troubleshooting, commissioning, and training. The successful candidate will contribute throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning, and will be expected to win work in the field, deliver complex engineering projects within budget and schedule.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Business Management:
Represent the Australian region within the company's Global Backfill Group. Lead backfill efforts in Australia, growing and developing the team in collaboration with other regional leaders. Develop and oversee laboratory programmes to expand the local lab business. Assist with recruitment of engineering staff as required and win significant work in the backfill market.
Project Management
Improve and develop client relationships. Prepare, review, and approve proposals for basic, standard, and complex projects. Act as project manager for large and complex engineering projects, managing communication with clients and stakeholders. Select, contract, and monitor suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors. Ensure compliance with all contracts and issue or review detailed project close-out reports. Lead the preparation of cost estimates and take accountability for project outcomes, identifying and implementing improvements as necessary.
Engineering Design
Lead backfill projects as the primary client contact, directing internal and external engineering teams. Prepare engineering proposals, engaging clients from project outset in a collaborative manner. Manage project budgets, schedules, and scopes, preparing forecasted spend and ensuring adherence to requirements. Develop project schedules across all stages: PFS, FS, detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning. Apply technical skills to solve engineering problems and tasks. Manage and develop the backfill teams' structure, systems, capabilities, and resources. Communicate technical information through report writing and presentations.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering (Geotechnical, Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical/Process, or equivalent)
- Minimum 8 years' experience in mine backfill design or operations
- Extensive supervisory/leadership and project management experience
- Technical knowledge in slurry pipelines or filtration, experience with modelling/drawing software, operational experience on backfill plants
- Integrity, honesty, self-motivation, reliability, punctuality, open and respectful communication, organisational skills, initiative, autonomy, resilience under pressure, teamwork, commitment to technical excellence and continuous learning, attention to detail, ability to follow instructions
- Valid Australian driver's license (required), Professional Engineering Chartership with EA or APEA (desired)
- Willingness to travel and work outside standard hours as required, familiarity with WA occupational health and safety legislation
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $200,000.00 – $220,000.00 per year
