Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual, family, and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs.

Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.

About the Role:

The role offers the opportunity for a mental health experienced registered nurse to work collaboratively with the organisations Social and Emotional Wellbeing team, the clinical staff of GPs, RNs and Aboriginal Health Workers.

You will deliver quality, efficient and effective person-centred care which meets the need of patients and their families, including supporting patients to ensure health interventions and service delivery processes are understood. This includes developing and implementing health management plans, case conferences, attending multidisciplinary team meetings and providing associated nursing follow-up focusing on the services' clients with a mental illness.

Essential Criteria:


• Experience working with people experiencing a range of mental health, substance use and/or social challenges


• Demonstrated experience in mental health practice and service delivery, including completion of mental health assessments, crisis management and treatment interventions

that use current evidence-based approaches


• Demonstrated ability to form relationships and work effectively with Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander clients, families, and co-workers. This includes a demonstrated

awareness of, and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, Aboriginal primary health care and current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people and communities.


• Proven ability to manage competing demands and complex clinical cases

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:


• Triaging our patients and prioritising emergency situations.


• Provision of primary health care to patients & health education to Aboriginal community members, including acting as an advocate to assist patients in making informed

decisions


• Deliver quality, efficient and effective person-centred care which meets the need of patients and their families, including supporting patients to ensure health intervention

and service delivery processes are understood.


• Complete the nursing components of health management plan, case conferences, attend multidisciplinary team meetings and provide associated nursing follow-up


• Work in partnership with Aboriginal Health Workers, respecting the cultural expertise of Aboriginal Health Workers to ensure the provision of holistic and culturally

appropriate health care to Aboriginal people.


• Commitment to partner with the Aboriginal population to enhance health outcomes for clients.


• Applying evidence-based practice and critical thinking to patient care, and act in accordance with professional boundaries, ethics, respect and scope of practice


• Utilise problem solving approach to clients centred care that includes the development of comprehensive care plans and the provision of case planning.

Desirable Criteria:


• Recent work experience and knowledge of Mental Health and Social and Emotional Well-being

Minimum Qualifications:


• Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Midwife with AHPRA


• A Current National Police Check.


• A Current Working with Children's Check NSW.


• Current Driver's License that allows you to drive in Australia.
