ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking an experienced and self-motivated Brakes Engineer for a contract role placed with Ford's Product Development team in Geelong.
In this role, you will be working in a dynamic global environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and development of commodities within the area of Brakes Systems
- Deliver system designs to meet customer and corporate targets within cost constraints and meeting program timing.
- Develop designs using the Ford-specific systems and tools such as Design Rules, SDS and Attachment A.
- Use reliability tools (Reliability and Robustness Check List (RRCL), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), P-Diagrams) to demonstrate system compatibility to targets.
- Attend and apply Ford Technical Education Program (FTEP) training principles in design development.
Project management of components and systems
- Direct and manage suppliers to deliver designs and manufacture components from concepts, through prototypes to final off-tools components.
- Lead project teams of cross-functional members to deliver feasible designs for components and systems that also meet timing and cost targets.
Design and release components
- Use Ford WERS systems to release components for production and update parts as designs progress.
- Use digital buck and IDEAS to graphically design and review components in 3 dimensions.
- Verification of designs using Electronic Ford Design Verification System (eFDVS) to track part validation and demonstrate targets are met.
- Lead or participate in regular design reviews and gateway meetings with management to give design status and progress.
- Follow Ford GPDS (Global Product Development System) to progress designs to meet program timing plan and deliverables.
Build support and launch
- Participate in pre-production builds in supplier and Ford plants and capture problems which require part changes and build updates.
- Use systems such as AIMS and Global 8D for problem tracking and resolution to document robust closure of issues.
REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5+ years technical experience in a design-related chassis or automotive-related supplier engineering group.
- Strong project management competencies including team and problem-solving skills including 6-Sigma processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead/motivate international project teams.
- Exposure to the Global Product Development System or system design engineering principles.
- Demonstrated focus on driving for results.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with Global Technical Specialists.
- Proven ability to lead and work with a cross-functional team across the Asia Pacific region.
Leadership
- Strong project management competencies including team and problem-solving skills.
- Strength in leading/motivating project teams.
- Business acumen.
- Conflict resolution.
Functional / Technical (TMM)
- Understanding of the brakes and chassis systems.
- Strong understanding of the processes of component design to production implementation.
- Strong understanding of component design and process verification.
