About this Opportunity
Loreto College Coorparoo is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Low Strings Teacher (Cello and Bass) for approximately 12 hours per week (Term Time, casual basis) to join our vibrant music department. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction on cello and double bass to students of varying ages and abilities, nurturing their musical growth and passion for string instruments. In addition to individual and group teaching, this role will also include conducting and directing string ensembles as part of our music program. This position will be commencing in January 2026.
The main duties of the role include
- Deliver engaging low strings lessons (cello and bass), both one-on-one and in group settings.
- Prepare students for performances, exams, and competitions.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain a positive and encouraging learning environment.
- Collaborate with other music staff for concerts and events.
Qualifications and Experience
- Appropriate qualifications in Music, String Performance (Cello/Bass), Education, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching cello and/or double bass to children of different ages
- Experience in Ensemble direction and leadership
- Knowledge of Core Teaching Areas of these instruments, including posture, hand techniques, music reading and ensemble skills
- Ability to select appropriate pieces of music for individual and group performances
- Strong knowledge of music pedagogy, technique, and repertoire across genres.
- Experience supporting students through AMEB, Trinity, or other established music curricula and assessment programs (highly regarded).
- Current Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
About you
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students of all ages. You will possess the ability to demonstrate proper vocal technique, while modelling patience, adaptability, and a supportive attitude. Experience within a secondary school directing ensembles, or professional performance experience will be highly regarded.
You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the College's Student Protection Policy and processes, and to work alongside our students, you will need to hold a valid Working with Children Check Positive Paid Employee Notice (BlueCard).
