About The Opportunity
We're seeking a highly experienced Principal Infrastructures Designer to lead the delivery of major infrastructure projects across Australia. With over 15 years of experience and Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation, you'll bring deep technical expertise in alignment design, earthworks, and multidisciplinary coordination across sectors such as, roads, rail, mining, solar, and airports. Your advanced skills in 12D and Bentley OpenRoads, combined with a passion for digital modelling, will be key to solving complex design challenges and driving innovation.
In this role, you will shape design workflows, mentor high-performing teams, and collaborate with key stakeholders including state authorities and clients. Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Design: Lead the design and delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects including roads, rail, mining, solar, and airports, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and local authority requirements.
- Alignment & Earthworks: Develop and oversee alignment design and earthworks for complex linear infrastructure, integrating multidisciplinary inputs.
- Design Management: Shape design workflows, packaging strategies, and deliverable requirements to optimize project outcomes and ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and guide multidisciplinary teams, fostering technical excellence and collaboration across all project phases.
- Digital Modelling: Drive advanced 3D modelling using 12D and Bentley OpenRoads, solving challenging geometries and interfaces with precision.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clients, reviewers, proof engineers, and state authorities (e.g., TfNSW, TMR, ARTC) to align design objectives and influence outcomes.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all design outputs meet rigorous quality standards, incorporating sustainability and innovation into every solution.
- Project Coordination: Manage design budgets, schedules, and resources, supporting bid development and contributing to a strong pipeline of future work.
- Innovation: Explore and implement automation tools and emerging technologies to enhance design efficiency and productivity
About You
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Chartered Professional Engineer CPEng, mandatory.
- Minimum 15 years' experience in infrastructure design, across sectors such as roads, rail, mining, solar plants, or airports.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, Austroads guidelines, and relevant local authority requirements.
- Demonstrated expertise in alignment design and earthworks for large-scale linear infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in concept and detailed design delivery for major transport and industrial infrastructure, CPS, site surveillance or construction management also desirable.
- Experience in coordinating and reviewing multidisciplinary inputs including drainage, bridges, geology, structures, utilities and environmental aspects.
- Ability to lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, provide technical guidance, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Advanced proficiency with design and modelling software:
- 12D and Bentley (OpenRoads).
- Ability to create and shape design delivery workflows and mentor junior team members in the efficient development of design deliverables.
- Ability to develop design delivery methodologies including the development of design packaging strategies and design deliverable requirements.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong initiative, problem-solving abilities, and holistic technical insight.
- Commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability in infrastructure design.
- Structured knowledge in software automation and productivity efficiency tools.
Additional Preferred Skills
- Proven ability to manage design budgets, schedules, and resource planning.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, including detailed design delivery schedules (program) and monitor change events closely.
- Sound pre-existing client relationships in place and the ability to generate and sustain a pipeline of work on previous reputation.
- Ability to assist in the development and ownership of bids including developing estimates and proposals.
