We provide technical engineering services to Australia's heavy vehicle organisations that are associated with mining, quarrying, construction, and material handling.

About the role

Jamieson is currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Drafter to join our team. The rewarding role will see the new team member working with our already established engineering team and involve but not limited to; producing 3D models, detailed drawings, design & development, creation of BOMs and basic engineering administration.

The ideal candidate will have proficient Solidworks knowledge and skills along with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. To have experience within the transport industry or a similar field will be very advantageous but is not essential to apply. The role will offer an immediate start and above the awards rate of pay to the precise calibre of candidate.

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • CAD Models, Drawings & Schematics: Produce 3D models and technical drawings for manufacture, prepare concept/proposal drawings to meet design requirements and specifications, create pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.
  • Compliance: Ensure final designs comply with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Produce engineering documentation, from specification sheets to procedures.
  • Problem Solving: Have the ability to assess designs and problem solve
  • Time-management: Adhere to project timelines, deadlines and self-manage.

Skills and experience

  • 4+ years' experience working as a mechanical design / drafter with proficient Solidworks skills.
  • Diploma of Engineering Drafting (or strong trade / workshop background).
  • Demonstrated intermediate knowledge with 2D CAD software programs including, AutoCAD, DraftSight etc.
  • Good understanding of relevant technical drawing standard AS1100.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, proficient in written and reading English (language), able to effectively communicate at all levels within the business.
  • The ability to follow directions from supervisors as well as work independently, as required.

Other experience and skills that will be desirable, but not essential:

  • Strong aptitude to mechanical reasoning (problem-solve), calculations mathematics
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and understanding of heavy vehicle design industry.
  • Technical experience within a manufacturing environment, including hydraulics & pneumatics.
  • Welding experience and good understanding of relevant standards including 1554.1, 3992, AS1210, AS2809 etc.

On-going training and support will be provided and a competitive base salary will be negotiated with the right candidate, commensurate with experience.
