Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Rail Planner to join our team at Port Botany, NSW. In this role you will be responsible for the efficient planning, coordination, and execution of rail operations to ensure the timely and cost-effective movement of containers. The role supports operational excellence by optimising train schedules, yard utilisation, and resource allocation while ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and service standards.
Additionally, you will work closely with internal teams, rail operators, and transfer teams, to deliver seamless rail solutions that meet customer needs and support overall business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and coordinate daily rail operations, including load/unload schedules and stock checks using the 1-Stop system.
Communicate with internal teams, rail operators, and customers to ensure service requirements and operational priorities are met.
Resolve delays, planning conflicts, and container shortages to maintain efficient rail and yard performance.
Work with the AQIS Coordinator to manage containers requiring biosecurity actions.
Provide timely customer support and maintain clear communication across terminal teams.
Ensure compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and other regulatory requirements, including weekly train activity reporting.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
2+ year's experience in rail or container yard operations; container park experience and familiarity with Modal are advantageous.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Proven customer service capability and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.
High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general computer systems.
