ARA Electrical Services is a rapidly expanding electrical contractor working within the industrial sector predominately in Victoria, while also completing projects nationally. We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated automation technician to join our growing ranks. This role is uniquely suited to an A-grade electrician with previous experience in PLC programming and commissioning, or an engineer who presents with strong practical site fault-finding skills.

The Role

As a member of the automation team, you will contribute to both projects based work and ongoing service support.

With project work, you will develop and program PLC and safety-PLC systems using platforms such as Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, Omron Sysmac Studio, and Pilz PNOZ Multi. You'll also design and implement HMI and SCADA solutions using tools like FT Optix, FactoryTalk SE, Ignition, and WinCC, as well as participate in commissioning activities including FAT and SAT.

With service work, you'll be assisting at times both on-site and remote to troubleshoot a range of automation systems including PLCs, VSDs, HMIs, SCADA, Vision Systems & industrial networking equipment & field devices.

Skillset

Strong knowledge of PLC programming languages essential IEC

Proficient in Studio 5000, TIA Portal or Omron Sysmac Studio desirable

Fundamental knowledge of industrial fieldbuses is essential; EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus RTU/TCP, OPCUA, HART, ASi.

Foundational knowledge of networking concepts is highly desirable.

Exposure to higher level programming languages (python, C#, C++) desirable.

Experience in SCADA design, development & deployment (WinCC, FactoryTalk SE, Ignition, CITECT) is highly desirable

Strong fault-finding skills in both electrical and mechanical applications are highly desirable

Key Requirements

A-Grade industrial electrician or bachelor's degree in relevant field

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and electrical schematics

5+ years' experience in commissioning and fault-finding PLC based systems

Experience in FAT & SAT processes

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality work

Availability to work full-time day shifts and be on-call for emergencies when necessary

Australian drivers licence
