Primary objective
The Senior Director, Aquatic Resources provides executive leadership in the administration of legislation, regulations and
research programs to sustainably manage the Northern Territory's aquatic resources.
Context statement
Provide strategic leadership that bridges the science-public policy arenas on complex multi-sector fisheries. The position is
responsible for the delivery of NT Fisheries licencing, management and research functions to ensure the sustainable use of
aquatic resources, including the development of national and international partnerships to drive performance and innovation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support the Senior Executive Director drive a culture of achievement, innovation and quality through constructive
leadership practices and coordinate strategic and annual business planning for the division.
2. Identify, develop and implement system improvements and revised operational frameworks to meet business needs and
ensure effective monitoring and legislative compliance.
- Provide strategic advice, support, and collaborate constructively across the Division to deliver effective administration
of Fisheries legislation.
4. Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships and strategic alliances with other Government agencies and
stakeholders at local, national and international levels to achieve successful development and implementation of
government policy.
- Represent the NT Government at senior inter-governmental and stakeholder forums.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven executive experience in a regulatory organisation, including the ability to lead and participate in executive teams
to deliver Government priorities.
- Extensive experience and highly developed abilities in strategic planning, leadership and decision making in a complex
and politically sensitive organisational environment.
3. Demonstrated experience optimising management systems, processes, guidelines and standards for regulatory functions.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, bringing communication, interpersonal,
negotiation and collaborative skills together with the ability to accurately analyse and clearly communicate complex
issues.
Demonstrated ability to manage resources and remain within budget whilst managing competing demands.
Demonstrated knowledge of fisheries or comparable natural resource management and Government's role in regulating
such activities.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications, preferably post graduate, in Fisheries or a related field.
