About the Role

The overall purpose of the Youth Worker, Residential Care is to provide care and/or support to children and young people, in out of home care and/or living within at risk families. The care and support provided by Youth Workers will enhance opportunities for the young person to participate in age-appropriate activities to support development of positive self-regard, to support community inclusion, to support positive relations with family of origin and to contribute to placement stability.

This role involves being the primary caregiver during shift, ensuring the safety of young people in care, and imparting essential life skills to establish a consistent routine. Collaborating with the Coordinator and Service Manager, you'll help develop trauma-informed interventions for these young individuals with complex issues.

What a day in the life of a Residential Youth Worker looks like:

  • Planning and engaging in meaningful activities with the young person.
  • Being a vital part of a cohesive team, dedicated to helping young people achieve their personal goals.
  • Promoting good hygiene and nutrition.
  • Maintaining daily case notes, handling administrative tasks, and preparing incident reports.

Permanent Part-Time Rates starting at $38.65 per hour (excluding allowances).

Current positions available:

Nerang - Line B Hours per fortnight

Week 1 - Tuesday (2pm to 10.30PM + Sleepover + 6am to 10am)

Week 2 - Monday, Wednesday & Friday (2pm to 10.30PM + Sleepover + 6am to 10am), Sunday (8am to 10.30pm + Sleepover until next 8am next day)

Line A - Wallaby Way

Week 1 - Monday, Wednesday & Friday (2pm to Sleepover until 10am next day), Sunday (8am to 11pm + Sleepover until 8am finsih)

Week 2 - Tuesday (2pm to 10.30pm + sleepover until 10am next day

Sea Breeze Line J = 56 Hour contract (8 hour shifts between 6am-10pm)

Week 1 - Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun

Week 2- Wed, Thurs

Sea Breeze Line K = 56 Hour contract (8 hour shifts between 6am-10pm)

Week 1 - Wed, Thurs

Week 2 - Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun

Wallaby residential Line L : All shifts are 5:00pm - 10:30pm + S/O 06:30 to 09:00am

Week 1 - Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun

Week 2 - Wed, Thurs

Wallaby residential Line M : All shifts are 5:00pm - 10:30pm + S/O 06:30 to 09:00am)

Week 1 - Wed, Thurs

Please note shift times may vary according operational and on school holidays.

Qualifications, Credentials and Other Requirements

  • A Certificate IV or higher qualification in Child, Youth & Family Intervention, Youth Services, Community Services, or a related field
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children's Check QLD)
  • Current Licensed Care Service (LCS)
  • Completion of Hope and Healing Framework training
  • Current Queensland Drivers Licence
  • The ability to provide two recent referees of supervisors
  • Availability to work - day, evening and weekend shifts, including sleepovers or awake shifts is essential for current needs. Availability to work 5 out of 7 days a week inclusive of every second weekend.

  • Ability to operate autonomously while seeking guidance as needed
  • Able Respond to crises flexibly, considering risk and compliance
  • Understand of provision of care in accordance with the Child Protection Act 1999
