Lismore, Australia University of Sydney Full time $127,436 - $150,000 per year
  • Part time (0.2 FTE) fixed term until 29 February 2028 based in Lismore or North Sydney

  • Build clinical capacity in assistive technology use for clients with traumatic brain injury

  • Base Salary $127,436 (pro rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

We have an opportunity available for an experienced Research Fellow with a background in behavioral sciences, allied health (e.g., occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy) or similar related fields of research, to support the AT-wRAP (Assistive Technology – wrap around supports) project. The project will bring Assistive Technology (AT) solutions within arms' reach of Lifetime and Workers Care scheme participants and the broader population of people living with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in rural locations, as well as their families and communities. This will be achieved through a focus on building clinician capacity and capability, increasing exposure to new technology, and facilitating links and relationships between suppliers, clinicians, and people with TBI. While the project will focus on people with TBI across all stages of the lifespan and injury trajectory, a focus on ageing will be a key component.

Reporting to Associate Professor, Grahame Simpson, and as a part of the School of Health Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, the Research Fellow will have the opportunity to base themselves in either Lismore or North Sydney at the Kolling Institute, (RNSH LHD).

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • assist with implementing specific procedures under the supervision of Senior Research Lead and the AT-wRAP Project Manager based on current research protocols, ensuring timely execution of research activities and protocols are adhered to

  • undertake rapid review of the delivery of assistive technology to Indigenous communities within the Australian context

  • manage ongoing ethics amendments, reporting and updates

  • coordinate, conduct and/or contribute to data collection in partnership with the two AT-wRAP project officers and the project external evaluators

  • set up and manage systems for data entry and assist with data analysis (qualitative and/or quantitative)

  • engage with allied health clinicians of services within included NSW local health districts working with people with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury in the AT-wRAP project

  • assist with the documentation process for research outputs and maintaining comprehensive research records.

About you

  • Masters degree in allied health or equivalent professional experience

  • ability for occasional overnight travel to study sites for data collection

  • proven computer literacy and proficiency in using various research and administrative software applications, that may include Microsoft Suite, REDCap, SPSS and other relevant data analytic software

  • excellent communication skills and ability to work with a range of interest-holders, including study participants from diverse backgrounds with differing levels of cognitive ability

  • strong problem-solving skills, initiative, sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods.
