What to Expect
The Tesla Energy Project Engineering team is responsible for the successful deployment of Tesla's Megapack utility scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). We're looking for an Electrical/Computer Engineering or Software Engineering graduate who is driven, motivated, and collaborative to join us to help accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
You will be working to create and maintain software tools that accelerate commissioning, increase quality and drive efficiency across Project Engineering, SCADA Engineering and Hardware in the Loop (HiL) testing.
This is a broad role for a software engineering generalist. You will work on software tools that increase the efficiency of utility scale BESS deployment. The tools (existing and future) would be relatively small codebases with one to three contributors and used by a small team of engineers. The focus is on functionality rather than producing polished software suitable for mass-release.
You must want to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and show great initiative – if you see an opportunity to improve things through development of a software tool, you'll likely be building it.
What You'll Do
- Lead the development of new tools
- Administer the codebase of existing tools
- Enforce best practice and ensure code is maintainable and well-documented
Examples of tools the successful candidate may work on:
- Automatic power quality meter data downloader
- Dynamic power system model overlay tool
- Hardware in the loop test automations
- BESS project-specific HMI/GUI acceptance test automation
- Reporting tools (web dashboards)
- Business system and engineering workflow automation tools (e.g. checklists) interacting with internal and external software platforms via APIs and database queries.
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Computer/Electrical or Software Engineering (recent graduates preferred)
- Strong communication skills (written and spoken)
- Problem-solving ability and extreme proactivity
- Knowledge of programming best-practices
- Proficiency with GitHub
- Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously
