Under the direction of Senior Management and Senior Rangers, Conservation Rangers are responsible for a variety of tasks to ensure the upkeep of property and facilities of wildlife reserves and associated properties.
Rare and Endangered species thrive within the natural reserves protected by our Conservation Rangers. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide effective management of the property by coordinating and supervising projects, environmental assets, visitor and stakeholder liaison and field based activities, including bushfire management, weed control management and law enforcement.
To be successful in this role, a successful candidate will be committed to protecting and preserving the property and the wildlife that call it home. This is a live-in position, where accommodation, utilities are provided. This position will work alongside a number of dedicated individuals across a range of properties all over Australia, and will work closely with Australia Zoo Management.
Duties Include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the management of the property, including planning and implementing improvements and maintenance to facilities and research hubs. This will include work such as garden maintenance, area maintenance, facility maintenance, general renovations and weed control.
- Implementing fire management processes and participate in wildfire response along with scheduled burn-offs on the property.
- Work closely with the other members of the Conservation Ranger team to ensure the properties are protected across all areas.
- Conducts frequent patrols of the conservation property, ensuring that any and all concerns are reported to the appropriate law enforcement parties. This will include trail camera monitoring and providing trespasser details to law enforcement.
- Participates in visitor safety and management including response to emergency situations.
- Operate a variety of equipment and vehicles according to Australia Zoo's safe working procedures and other governing bodies.
- Conduct tours and educational presentations to invited members who may visit the Conservation Property throughout the year, and ensure the facilities are well-kept and available to groups whilst visiting during these times.
- Escort relevant scientists and researchers throughout the Conservation Property, ensuring that they operate in accordance with all regulations.
- Perform animal care, such as reporting and/or caring for wounded animals and liaising with local wildlife carers.
- Provide frequent reports to the Senior Management team on schedule and when requested.
Essential Criteria:
- Availability to work across a 7-day period, and commit to a Full Time, live-in position.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Knowledge and passion for Native Fauna.
- Previous grounds/maintenance experience, including knowledge of weed control and native plants.
- Experience operating machinery, such as 4WD's and other vehicles.
- Hold current Manual Driver's Licence.
- Q-fever Vaccination (or exemption).
- Other tickets/Licenses relevant to the role (for example; back-hoe, Tractor, Chainsaw Level 1, First Aid and CPR Certificates and an RFDS Ticket).
- This role is a physically demanding position, and requires a high-level of fitness and mobility.
- Category AB Firearms License.
