Job Description

  • Unload kitchen or bathroom components from delivery vehicles, label and measure each door, drawer front and panel and create a job card listing materials and finishes.
  • Maintain records to ensure that each item can be tracked from preparation to final delivery.
  • Remove door handles, hinges, knobs, door seals and other hardware and upon completion of work, reinstall these components and adjust alignment to ensure smooth functionality.
  • Set up workstations by erecting ladders or scaffolds when needed, use drop sheets, masking tape and plastic sheeting to protect countertops, appliances, floors and splash backs.
  • Clean kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities with degreaser to remove cooking oils, soap residue and grime.
  • Assess surfaces, repair dents and cracks with putty or filler, then sand and hand sand edges and profiles to create a smooth base.
  • Fill nail holes and gaps, caulk seams, and apply stain blocking primers or moisture resistant sealers appropriate for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Select paints, stains and clear coats based on material (timber, MDF, laminate) and client specifications.
  • Mixing and matching paint, stain and other finishes to suit job specifications
  • Apply primers, undercoats, top coats, stains and clear finishes by spray gun, brush or roller.
  • Inspect primed and finished panels for scratches, pin holes, runs and colour uniformity; sand lightly and re‑coat where necessary.
  • Clean and maintain spray guns, brushes, hoses and filters and teach apprentices how to set up and clean sprayers.
  • Work closely with project managers and designers to understand project requirements, timelines and budgets, liaise with installers to schedule finishing, and provide updates on job progress.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Certificate III in Painting and decorating
  • 2 years full-time experience
