Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Masada College Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Junior School Counsellor to join our team. This role will commence in 2026, with a handover period in November 2025 to ensure a smooth transition and connection with our school community before the official start. This is a part-time position (20 hours per week), working over 4–5 days. The role is a 9-month maternity leave contract, with the possibility of extension.

The Junior School Counsellor will work closely with our full-time School Psychologist, the Head of Academic Care, teaching staff, and university interns as part of the Academic Care team. The position involves delivering and supporting student wellbeing programs, providing individual and small group counselling, and collaborating with staff and families to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment. This role supports the student wellbeing services and plays a key part in fostering the emotional, social, and psychological development of our young learners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small group counselling to students from ELC to Year 6.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate student wellbeing programs in collaboration with the Academic Care team.
  • Contribute professional expertise to Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and develop personalised strategies for student support.
  • Deliver professional learning sessions for staff and workshops for parents on relevant wellbeing topics.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case notes, records, and reports in line with professional and legislative requirements.
  • Work in partnership with teachers, the Head of Academic Care, and the School Psychologist to identify and respond to student needs.
  • Support families with guidance, resources, and referrals to external services where appropriate.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and whole-school wellbeing initiatives.
  • Use ICT systems to manage records, communication, and program delivery.
  • Promote and support the Jewish ethos, values, and inclusive culture of Masada College.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in counselling, psychology, or a related field, with current membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Demonstrated experience providing counselling to children, young people, and their families.
  • Proven ability to facilitate group programs or therapy sessions with children.
  • Experience working in a school or child-focused setting (experience across ages 3–12 is desirable).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Highly collaborative, innovative, and effective practice within a multidisciplinary context.
  • Capacity to contribute to IEPs and deliver professional learning sessions to staff and parents.
  • Excellent record-keeping, organisational skills, and attention to detail.

How to Apply

Provide a cover letter outlining why you are suitable for the role along with an up-to-date copy of your resume detailing your previous experience as it relates to this role. To apply for this position, you will need to be an Australian Citizen/Resident or have a current Australian work visa.

All applicants must have (or are willing to obtain) a NSW Working With Children Check Number.

All appointments will be based on merit selection without reference to the religion of applicants. Empathy and support of the Jewish School ethos is essential. Masada College is committed to child safety and to the implementation of the Child Safe Standards.
