Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is seeking motivated and focused individuals to join our State Operations and Communications Centre as Surfcom Operators. In this fast-paced operational role, you'll be the crucial link between the public, emergency responders, and lifesaving teams across Queensland.
Working closely with a dedicated team and external emergency service providers, you'll receive and assess incident information, accurately enter it into our incident management system, and coordinate the most appropriate resources to respond. You'll also play a key role in sharing vital information with the public and partner agencies — all in real time, when every second counts. What You'll Do:
- Receive emergency and non-emergency calls, triage them, and determine the best course of action following SLSQ procedures.
- Log incident details with speed and accuracy.
- Dispatch and manage multiple rescue resources simultaneously.
- Operate advanced, multi-screen communication systems.
- Liaise with emergency services and the public with professionalism and care.
- Maintain a calm, solutions-focused mindset under pressure.
- Stay fit for duty—physically, emotionally, and mentally. Make use of support services when needed.
About You:
- Current Working with Children Blue Card (or the ability to obtain).
- Typing speed of 40+ wpm with 90%+ accuracy.
- Broad computer competence including Microsoft Office and web-based data systems.
- Strong communication and decision-making skills.
- Flexibility to work a rotating roster system, including weekend work.
- Certificate II in Public Safety and beach patrol experience (desirable).
- Relevant emergency service experience in an operational role (desirable).
- Relevant emergency operations centre experience (desirable).
