Classification Grade: Legal Officer Grade V (LOG V) and Legal Officer Grade VI (LOG VI)
Salary: LOG V $149,906 - $152,845 and LOG VI $161,034-$164,426 p.a. base salary (with superannuation and annual leave loading paid in addition to the base salary)
Work type: Full-Time – 35 hours per week, 12 months with a possibility of extension or conversion to ongoing
Location: Our primary place of work is the CSO Office located at 60-70 Elizabeth Street, Sydney.
- Please note we will be relocating to a new premises located at Parkline Place, 252 Pitt Street, Sydney in July 2026.

About the role

About you
Senior Solicitors and Principal Solicitors in the Civil Law & Commercial Strategy Division represent NSW Government agencies in significant litigation matters before various courts and tribunals. Depending on the practice group, these roles involve handling diverse legal matters, including Torts Service, Torts Justice and Public Interest & Protection.
Senior and Principal Solicitors play a key role in managing a legal practice, supervising junior solicitors in the early stages of their careers and providing expert advice on complex legal issues within their specialised areas. These roles require advanced legal skills, significant litigation experience and a commitment to delivering high-quality legal services on behalf of the Crown Solicitor's Office.
About the Practice Groups:
Torts Justice/Law Enforcement Agencies Practice Group:
This Practice Group undertakes all aspects of the defence and settlement of civil claims, specialising in claims for intentional torts and historical child abuse. The Practice Group also represents agencies in coronial inquests.
Torts Service & Regulatory Agencies Practice Group:
This Practice Group specialises in the defence and settlement of civil claims, with a focus on personal injury and medical negligence actions. The Practice Group also represents agencies in coronial inquests.
The Public Interest & Protection Practice Group:
The Public Interest & Protection practice group advises and represents NSW Government agencies in public interest immunity claims in criminal and civil matters across State and Commonwealth jurisdictions, advises and represents the Attorney General and Government agencies in relation to the administration of charitable trusts and represents Government agencies in guardianship and discrimination matters.

Essential requirements
- Law degree from an accredited institution or Legal Practitioners Admission Board's Diploma in Law
- Admitted or eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
- Extensive experience in providing advice and representation in complex legal matters, particularly in areas relevant to the Civil Law & Commercial Strategy Division
- Australian citizenship (for roles in the Public Interest & Protection Practice Group)
