About the role

Are you a passionate communicator or presenter who loves sharing informative content and storytelling? The Royal Australian Mint is looking for Museum Hosts to join our busy team. The Royal Australian Mint visitor experience (of Museum, Mint Shop and Café) are open 7 days a week, 8.30am to 5pm weekdays and 10am to 4pm weekends and public holidays. The Museum at the Mint sees an annual visitation of around 350,000 people including visiting school groups of around 120,000.

Our Museum Hosts lead public tours and supervise the busy museum floor, greet our guests and help with wayfinding, and deliver our education programs and school holiday programs.

Are you flexible and prefer non-traditional schedules? We have multiple positions to recruit, both full-time equivalent and part-time shifts, and are keen to hear about your availability and interest.

While we are open 7 days and can offer shifts across this time, our busiest school visit days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during semester, and so if you're a parent returning to the workforce and juggling school pickup times, have carer responsibilities or are a university student looking to balance classes, this might be the role for you.

The duties of this position include:

1. Providing exceptional and memorable customer experiences, including greeting visitors at the Welcome Desk and managing their journey through a busy Museum floor.
2. Presenting education programs and content to audiences of differing ages, levels and abilities; understanding that Australian Curriculum deliverables are met where required and tailoring presentation styles accordingly.
3. Presenting or supervising school holiday and other family-focussed education-led hands-on content.
4. Presenting dynamic and informative tours to a variety of audiences with a degree of professionalism.
5. Investing time in learning about our history, our programs, Australian culture, financial and social history to be able to respond to our visitors' questions.
6. Assisting in the broader work of the Museum Education and Visitor Services team, including but not limited to, delivering public programs, conducting visitor surveys, and assisting in the work on education and web resources.
7. Maintaining the safety and security of visitors and the Museum.

Requirement

An Australian Capital Territory Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration.
