About the role
Join AEMO's System Design division and play a key role in shaping the future of Australia's energy landscape. As the energy sector undergoes a transformation driven by the shift to renewables and electrification, we are experiencing a surge in transmission connection projects. Our Onboarding and Connections team manages the process of connecting and registering new generators into the National Electricity Market (NEM). With over GW of new generation expected in the next 30 years, we seek a Senior / Principal Engineer to help realize this vision.
In this role, you will work on integrating technologies such as wind, solar, hydro, battery storage, and hydrogen. You will collaborate with stakeholders including network service providers, developers, investors, manufacturers, government bodies, regulators, and industry experts.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading large-scale, complex projects from inception to operation.
Providing expert support and guidance to regional teams for seamless project delivery.
Building and maintaining relationships with clients and addressing project challenges proactively.
Focusing on practical solutions and process improvements.
Making data-driven, transparent, and pragmatic decisions.
Offering high-level technical advice on standards, system stability, system strength solutions, registration, and commissioning.
Applying solution-oriented problem solving.
Mentoring and coaching technical staff and stakeholders to foster continuous learning and excellence.
Contributing to regulatory advancements supporting renewable energy integration into the Australian electricity market.
Qualifications and experience required:
Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Proven leadership in delivering medium to large-scale, complex projects.
Expertise in power system modelling tools such as PSSE and PSCAD.
Experience managing generator connection processes within the NEM.
Strong stakeholder negotiation skills, balancing technical, commercial, and reputational factors.
Understanding of NEM operations, generator behavior, network constraints, and legal aspects of infrastructure projects.
