
System Development Engineer, Core Networking

As a System Development Engineer you will help to deploy, manage, fix and reinvent the software tools, services and components that network engineering rely on to automate our network and keep it operational. You will actively be involved in innovating new software solutions to solve the challenges of operating the AWS network. Key job responsibilities Identifying and solving challenging systems, process and tooling issues to make things better for our customers
Designing and implementing entire new software components, products or services which improve operational efficiency
Investigating technical issues thoroughly, performing root cause analysis, identifying changes to procedures and systems and implementing long term fixes to avoid repeating issues.
Providing solutions to technically challenging real business problems in a global organization
Hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance (see day in the life A SysDE is responsible for maintaining their teams' services, requiring them to troubleshoot and identify the root causes of any issues that arise within their systems and any subcomponents. A SysDE will utilise testing, monitoring, and validations on their services, tools, and infrastructure to ensure their teams can continuously deploy new versions of the services with minimal interruption. A SysDE will identify areas to invent, refine, and develop automation and tools to reduce manual operations and fulfil the requirements of the business and their customers.

About the team AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
About the team The Systems Development team manages all of the software services and platforms that builds, operates, monitors and assures the AWS network within entire regions. We design and implement automation and new software solutions to improve operational efficiency on behalf of our Network Engineer customers. We're at the forefront of powering AWS's vast network infrastructure, transforming complex operational challenges into scalable systems that enhance the reliability and efficiency of one of the world's largest cloud networks.
Basic Qualifications Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
Preferred Qualifications Experience with networking fundamentals including hands-on experience with load balancers, switches, routers, etc.
Experience utilizing AWS cloud solutions in a DevOps environment
Hands-on Python experience
