**ACCOUNTABILITY**

**REPORTS TO**: Principal, Junior School

**WORKING TIME**: Full time

**RATIONALE**

The Deputy Principal is a member of the Junior School leadership team and reports directly to the Principal. The Deputy Principal provides strategic leadership in line with the College’s vision and is responsible for ensuring management decisions align with the College’s strategic plan with overall direction from the Principal.

**PRIMARY PURPOSE**
- Transforming the school experience for students, staff and families that is future-focused and aligned to school objectives.
- Delivering and executing against school-identified objectives.
- Embed entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and empathy in the school experience.
- Proactively ensure continuous improvement of strategic innovation processes
- Leading talent development through oversight of development plans.

**DUTIES**
- Ensure the College’s Islamic ethos, student wellbeing and student achievement are at the forefront of decision-making
- Leading and managing the provision of a pioneering, creative and stimulating curriculum for the Junior School
- Play a major role under the overall direction of the Principal in formulating and reviewing the Junior School Improvement strategy
- Make recommendations to the Principal on all matters relating to areas of your responsibility where changes or improvements are required to existing policies and procedures
- Contribute to the development of and compliance with policies and procedures for the Junior School
- Leading the development and monitoring of policies relating to the Junior School’s Teaching and Learning and ensuring that the Junior school practice reflects those policies holding responsibility for educational standards across the school
- Assisting the Principal with developing the teaching expertise, professional development, and wellbeing of staff
- Establishing high standards of student achievement, uniform and behaviour throughout the school
- Assisting the Principal with self-evaluation and development planning process
- Work collaboratively and effectively with the leadership team to achieve high performance
- Assisting with the management of daily operations of the school including the calendar, events management, assemblies, class covers
- Compliance with NESA requirements
- Assist the Principal as required and to deputise when necessary
- Support staff where necessary to ensure that quality teaching and learning is the focus
- Assist the Principal in compiling, proposing and overseeing the Junior Schools’ financial budgets on an annual basis
- Teach assigned classes where requested or required although no teaching load has been specified
- Attend Junior school camps or overnight activities, where required and requested
- Attend College orientation and induction days, be available at parent/teacher interviews, attend staff meetings, assembly duty, participation in extra curricula programs, professional development activities

**Operational/Strategic Planning**
- To assist in Junior School development planning
- Managing the overall organisation and resources
- Work with the Principal to develop and implement policies and procedures necessary to achieve the aims of teaching, learning, curriculum and wellbeing in the Junior school
- Work with the Principal to recruit staff of the highest calibre for the Junior School
- Ensure the environment and resources of the College reflects its learning and Islamic ethos

**Teaching and Learning**
- Have responsibility for the policies and procedures for the Junior school curriculum, teaching and learning, assessment, recording and reporting
- Ensuring that the learning and teaching provided by different teaching teams form a coordinated, coherent curriculum entitlement for individual students
- Ensuring that information on student progress is used to improve teaching and learning, to inform and motivate pupils, to inform parents, to provide necessary references for other educational institutions and employers and to aid management of the Junior school
- Ensuring that the individual student’s continuity of learning and effective progression of achievement are evidenced across the College by liaison with fellow leaders, teachers and support staff
- Oversee the planning and allocation of resources designed to facilitate the planned curriculum, including advising the Principal on current/anticipated needs for staff and other resources
- Oversee the implementation of the integration of ICT into the classroom
- Oversee pupil assessment and the monitoring of academic standards
- Ensure that arrangements are in place for the identification and support of children of all abilities
- Plan, implement and evaluate a challenging, stimulating, creative and exciting holistic curriculum for all students, including appropriate robust systems for assessment a
