What is the role?

Applications are sought from qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Member - Disability Justice Liaison Officer, ACT Policing.

The Disability Justice Liaison Officer position has been established to foster a shared approach to providing access to justice to people with disability. This role contributes to the ACT Disability Justice Strategy and supports the development of a cross system community of practice that identifies and addresses systemic barriers that impact access to justice for people with disability.

The community of practice supports a cultural shift in justice agencies to identify and meet the needs of people with disability through coordination of training, resource adaption and engaging with service users.

The successful applicant will support the organisation to develop and implement training programs, adapt resources, identify and provide for any necessary reasonable adjustments and undertake other activities that contribute to enhanced access to justice for people with disability.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

**The Disability Justice Liaison Officer will**:
Support the progression of the Disability Justice Strategy and contribute to work around data collection of both victims and offenders;
Facilitate the upgrade of ACT Policing materials into accessible formats including Easy English and plain English;
Facilitate the delivery of internal training;
Support the development of police better practice guides and provide recommendations on policy;
Establish and maintain relationships and actively engage with the community, non-government and government agencies;
Engage and liaise with community members with disability;
Identifying diversion pathways for people with disabilities;
Develop information sharing protocols with the community of practice and other relevant agencies;
Assist ACT Policing members working with members of the public with disability and reasonable adjustment needs, and ensure members of the public are supported and aware of their responsibilities and role in each stage of the legal process;
Support people with disability to navigate complex systems, including providing appropriate referrals;
Work with other justice community of practice members; and
Undertake other duties as directed.
Essential Requirements

A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one;
You must be an Australian Citizen;
Demonstrated engagement with people with disability and knowledge of the issues people with disability experience in relation to accessing justice;
A proven ability to engage with and support members of the community;
A proven ability to engage with stakeholders and partners to represent and advance the place of ACT Policing together with people of disability; and
Demonstrated knowledge and sensitivity to the compounding disadvantage experienced by people with disability and the social and legal factors affecting people with disability, their families and communities.

Desirable Requirements

Relevant experience and skills in education and/or community engagement is highly desirable,
