**JOB TITLE: SDJBL REFEREE COORDINATOR**
**REPORTING TO: SDJBL COMPETITION MANAGER**
**REMUNERATION (PER ANNUM): As agreed in Contract of Employment**
**HOURS: 10 hours per week minimum**
**CONTEXT**
The goals of the Southern District Junior Basketball League are to:
Provide a safe, well run basketball competition for all who wish to play, referee and coach in the southern suburbs of Adelaide.
Provide a pathway from recruitment through to district level for elite players, referees and coaches.
Create an environment which caters to the needs of junior players of all ages and abilities.
Establish a structure which ensures long-term financial security and sustainability.
To help meet these goals, the Southern District Junior Basketball League Referee Coordinator is an important platform to the competition’s success. This role is responsible for the development and management of all referees in the SDJBL.

**Primary Purpose of the Position**:
The Southern Districts Junior Basketball League (SDJBL) Referee Coordinator reports to the SDJBL Competition Manager. The accountabilities of the role can be divided into the following broad categories:
- Referee Management
- Referee Appointments
- Referee Development
**Key Accountabilities**:
**Referee Management**
- Maintain current records of all referees, detailing their grading and evaluation dates and results.
- Read through Court Supervisors reports and pass them onto the SDJBL Competition Manager as needed.
- Point of Call for all SDJBL Referees on game days.
- Review and respond to all incoming verbal referee enquiries, suggestions, complaints and issues in the first instance. Correspondence and matters in dispute must be notified to the SDJBL Competition Manager and SDJBL Competition Committee for joint resolution.
- Disseminate information regarding rule changes, interpretation and mechanics of basketball refereeing to the appropriate people, including referees, players, coaches and administrators.
- Ensure policies of the SDJBL are adhered to.
**Referee Appointments**
- Coordinate the referee roster for SDJBL games, ensuring alignment to appropriate standards.
- Assist in the transition of newly trained referees to shadowing then independent status.
- Use available rostering systems or software to their maximum benefit.
- Coordinate court plans and changes to fixture with SDJBL Competition Manager.
- Check referees coaching/playing fixture against refereeing availability.
**Referee Development**
- Attend stadiums on Game Days to assist with the development of referees and implement and maintain standards of officiating and behaviour. These appearances must vary to cover all venues and as many referees as possible.
- Provide regular informal feedback to all referees whilst in a venue.
- Liaise with Basketball SA to run a minimum of 3 Referee Level 0 Course per year.
- Identify and motivate referees with the potential to be selected on the BSA Junior Panel.
**Key Relationships/Interactions**
The SDJBL Referee Coordinator liaises and reports to the SDJBL Competition Manager for day-to-day business and the SDJBL Competition Committee who in turn reports to the Club Committees of South Adelaide Basketball Club and Southern Tigers Basketball Association.
The SDJBL Referee Coordinator does not hold delegated authority to spend Competition funds. All funds required must first be approved by the SDJBL Competition Manager and/or SDJBL Competition Committee or Finance delegate.
The SDJBL Referee Coordinator communicates with the Basketball SA Refereeing Department if there are potential referees that they may think could progress further in their refereeing career to provide a clear pathway to the district basketball level.
