This exciting permanent full-time leadership role, reporting into the Medical Director Pathology Services, provides transfusion medicine and pathology oversight, including in the area of transfusion related molecular genetic testing.

You will be responsible for providing transfusion medicine specialist advice. Working with others both medical and scientific to deliver exceptional services. You will be at the forefront of Lifeblood’s development of molecular haematology and sharing your expertise to expand our capability. Having a passion for mentoring and developing others will lend itself well to the success of this role.

We are looking for a medical specialist who is keen to use their expertise to play a lead role in policy and practice review and development at Lifeblood. You will use consultative, analytic, and interpretive skills to prepare, present and support innovation. You will be comfortable to act as a delegate for the Medical Director on key areas of business and committees. You will also lead and manage a small team of both medical and other staff.

Please note after a period of orientation and training you will contribute to the afterhours on call roster.

Note that this role does not involve direct contact with patients, however, does provide advice on matters of relevance to treating clinicians and laboratories.

Here is what we are looking for.

A Medical Degree, with current Medical Board of Australia registration

Fellowship with the RACP, RCPA

RCPA Extension of Scope of Practice in Molecular Genetics (NPAAC Supervision Certification Modules) or suitable experience to enable rapid attainment of this certification

Demonstrated experience in the practice of haematology, blood banking, transfusion medicine or related relevant field

Excellent collaboration skills, and ability to communicate, analyse and influence others to look for solutions and innovation without compromising safety and quality

People management experience or preparedness to be mentored to develop skills

Willingness to combine a workload that is both operational and strategic
