The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies is seeking a
**Developmental Editor** with strong editorial and communication skills to proof-read publications.
**About the organisation**
AIATSIS is Australia’s only national institution focused exclusively on the diverse history, cultures, and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia. AIATSIS houses the world’s most important and extensive collection of cultural information and material and provide leadership, publish and promote greater understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
**Overview of the role**
The APS6 Developmental Editor is responsible for identifying missing material, following up on outstanding papers, writing additional content and developing the manuscript into a practice manual for further publication by Aboriginal Studies Press (ASP).
**About the role**:
- Contribute to the achievement of AIATSIS goals and objectives as a member of the Research and Education Group
- Manage allocated project resources, set priorities and establish work plans, and evaluate the project outcomes
- Conduct high-level written work, using analytical tools, concepts and relevant information
- Manage own output and co-ordinate input from others in contributing to project outputs
- Work to deadlines, and renegotiate where appropriate
- Engage with stakeholders on a range of issues, including complex and sensitive issues, to contribute to successful outcomes
**Ideally, you will have**:
- Demonstrated personality of being self-motivated, creative and have experience working under pressure to meet deadlines
- Publishing and/or editing experience
- Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise and engage with stakeholders
- An understanding of the AIATSIS vision to create a world in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s knowledge and cultures are recognised, respected, celebrated and valued
- An informed, authentic and respectful understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and societies, including ethical research and policy matters related to the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- The capability to incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ voices, experiences and perspectives in all of our work
