Role Summary

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Policy Officer within the Transnational Serious & Organised Crime (TSOC) Strategy Team, Canberra. The TSOC Strategy Team provides strategic policy advice, coordination and support to the TSOC teams within Crime Command.

Crime Command leads and manages the AFP’s National and International crime investigations strategies and priorities. Crime Command has a strong focus on TSOC, which includes organised criminal networks facilitating trafficking of illicit commodities (drugs, firearms) and money laundering. Crime Command leads and manages the AFP’s strategic and operational relationships with whole-of-government and international partners on crime related matters.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Role Description & Responsibilities

As a Policy Officer you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Responsibilities of a Band 6 team member of the TSOC Strategy Team include:
Developing and maintaining an understanding of the TSOC environment.
Analysing information and formulating strategic positions on existing and emerging TSOC policy and legislative issues.
Drafting content, advice and briefings for Senate Estimates, Media enquiries, Questions on Notice and FOI requests.
Advising AFP Executive on key policy and strategic issues, including preparing verbal and written briefings and presentations for international and inter-agency meetings.
Contributing to Whole of Government and interagency priorities on TSOC.
Consulting and liaising with relevant areas of the AFP and external stakeholders on complex policy and significant law enforcement issues.
Undertaking a range of operational support tasks, projects or research to support the Crime Command Executive.
Guiding and mentoring junior members of the team.

Essential Requirements

You must be an Australian Citizen.
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role and/or a willingness to learn.
