**About Us**:
An exciting opportunity to join a high-profile team, at the centre of government, to advise on and lead a variety of legal matters across the justice system.
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for the provision of in-house legal services across the Department of Justice and Community Safety, to the Attorney-General as First Law Officer, and to other DJCS Ministers.
OGC supports a variety of policy and frontline service delivery functions for clients including Corrections Victoria, Youth Justice, Aboriginal Justice, Emergency Management, Tobacco Licensing Victoria, and Gaming and Liquor.
OGC brings together lawyers from varied career paths doing interesting and impactful work. This fosters a unique environment to learn and grow.

The Public Law and Litigation team (PLL) in OGC has a fast-paced and dynamic multi-disciplinary legal practice. We work on a broad range of matters including:

- Advising on public law matters for government, including in the areas of statutory interpretation, administrative law, constitutional law, human rights and legislative development; and
- Both instructing and acting in litigious matters, including judicial reviews, negligence claims and a range of VCAT proceedings.

**About the Role**:
The Public Law and Litigation team within OGC leads the delivery of legal services on constitutional, administrative and public law issues, and litigation faced by DJCS and Ministers, including managing the conduct and coordination of high-profile disputes and inquiries on behalf of the State. Some of your duties will include:

- Providing solutions based legal and policy advice, both written and oral, on issues relevant to government, Ministers, and the department, both individually and as part of a team of solicitors
- Independently managing multiple complex and sensitive matters (both litigation and advisory) for various clients
- Undertaking legal research and analysis on complex legal matters with outstanding statutory interpretation skills
- Contribute to a positive work environment which promotes a partnership approach to people management, enhances morale and respects diversity
- Perform other tasks as requested by the Managers or Deputy General Counsels.

**About You**:

- Demonstrated ability to carry out legal research and analysis
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with tight timeframes
- Enthusiasm for working in a Government Law Office
- Superior time management skills and the ability to multi-task and meet relevant deadlines, whilst maintaining effective work practices.
- Experience in, or knowledge of, Victorian Government and Cabinet processes
- Qualifications/Requirements:_
- Admitted, or eligible to be admitted, to practice as a legal practitioner in Victoria.
