The Salvation Army Independent School at our Riverview Campus provides a safe and welcoming space for young people to re-engage with learning and to pursue their educational and vocational goals. School programs are designed to support young people who have become disengaged from the mainstream school system, to finish their high school education (Year 10 - 12). Central to the school is the interests and objectives of all our students and their families.

The Volunteer Teacher Aide role is designed to provide in class support to students, ensuring their academic progress, emotional well-being, and social development are fully supported within a nurturing school environment under the direction of the Teacher.

Key responsibilities
- Provide in-class support to assist students with diverse learning needs, helping them engage with the curriculum effectively.
- Collaborate closely with teachers to foster an inclusive classroom environment.
- Contribute to the implementation of individualised support plans.
- Work in partnership with school staff to maintain a holistic approach to student well-being and educational success.
- Support the school’s commitment to providing quality education through strong teamwork and communication.
- Follow all safeguarding procedures and policies

Qualifications and skills (desired/required)
- Experience working with senior school students, particularly those with social, emotional, or learning challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with students and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate empathy, and act as a positive role model.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

- As this role is a child-related role, it requires a Working with Children Check/Working with Vulnerable People Check
- As this role involves working with vulnerable senior students, it requires a Police Check
- The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All child related roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. _Additionally, certain volunteer roles may require a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check._
