**Courts Administration Authority**
**Job reference**: 705746
**Location**: 5000 - ADELAIDE
**Job status**: Short Term Contract
**Eligibility**: Open to Everyone
**Magistrates Clerks play a central role in the delivery of justice in South Australia**
The Magistrates Clerk is responsible for the provision of an in-court and out-of-court administrative support service to the magistracy including the accurate recording of court proceedings.
As a Magistrates Clerk, you will work at the heart of the courtroom, supporting Magistrates to ensure proceedings run smoothly, fairly and with respect to the authority of the Court. This is a dynamic and highly visible role that combines courtroom coordination with high-level administrative support in Chambers.
Every day brings new challenges. You’ll coordinate the orderly flow of matters before the Magistrate, anticipate and resolve issues as they arise, and liaise with judicial officers, legal practitioners, government agencies and members of the public, including self-represented parties. Outside of court, you’ll prepare accurate records, orders, judgments and case files, ensuring the integrity of the Court’s work is maintained.
This is not a standard administrative role. It requires professionalism, discretion and initiative in a highly formal and public setting. You’ll be relied upon to make quick, sound decisions under pressure while supporting the proper administration and independence of the Court.
**What we’re looking for**
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Composure, professionalism and attention to detail in a formal courtroom setting.
- Initiative and sound judgment to anticipate issues, problem-solve and support smooth proceedings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to engage respectfully with diverse court users.
- Proficiency with technology, including case management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to travel across South Australia, including overnight circuits.
Typing speed of at least 50 wpm with 98% accuracy is required. Coaching, mentoring or experience in a legal or court setting will be highly regarded.
**Why join us?**
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the fair and efficient delivery of justice in South Australia. You’ll be part of a highly respected institution, working alongside the judiciary in a position of trust, professionalism and responsibility.
After an initial training period of at least three months, Clerks gain diverse experience working across all jurisdictions within the Magistrates Court, including the Youth Court. The role offers variety and scope to travel to different court locations - from the busy CBD and suburban courts to regional circuits across South Australia - providing a rare opportunity to see the justice system in action throughout the State.
Applicants are encouraged to attend an open court session at the Magistrates Court to see what the role of a Magistrates Clerk entails.
**Special Conditions**:
- Multiple full-time and part-time positions available. Initial contracts are for 12 months, with likely extensions.
- Appointment is under the _Courts Administration Act, 1993_. Terms and Conditions of employment are governed by the _Public Sector Act, 2009._
- Appointment is dependent upon a current National Police Certificate that the CAA finds satisfactory.
- As a justice agency, the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process.
- You will be required to undertake work related intra or interstate travel, which may require driving a motor vehicle and overnight absences.
- You will be required to work at any court sitting place in any jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court of Youth Court, or any business unit on a temporary or ongoing basis.
**Remuneration**:
ASO3 ($67, 589 - $72,033 per annum)
ASO4 ($76, 651 - $80, 256 per annum)
