**Your new role**
Are you an Aboriginal medical practitioner or health professional dedicated to improving the health care outcomes for Aboriginal communities? Join our team as the Clinical Specialist Lead - Aboriginal Health and make a significant impact on the next generation of doctors and their ability to provide culturally safe and appropriate care.
As a member of our Clinical Specialist Lead team, you will collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including the Director - Medical Program, Director - Medical Education, Director - Health Equity, and Aboriginal Health team. Your expertise and leadership will be crucial in shaping curriculum development, assessment strategies, and clinical placements, with a strong focus on Aboriginal health. By championing cultural orientation and safety initiatives within the Discipline, you will foster an environment that supports the growth and success of Curtin’s medical students.
**Responsibilities**:
- Contribute to the development of curriculum, assessment, and clinical placements, with a strong emphasis on Aboriginal health.
- Support cultural orientation and safety initiatives within the Discipline, ensuring adherence to high standards of behaviour and knowledge.
- Participate in teaching activities for medical students, providing mentorship and guidance.
- Assist in the admission processes for the MBBS course, including the Indigenous Australian entry pathway.
- Provide mentoring and support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander medical students.
- Engage in research and evaluation activities, either independently or as a leader.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Medical practitioner or health professional with a passion for improving health care for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Experience in health care and medical education, ideally with a focus on Aboriginal health.
- Strong commitment to fostering cultural safety and ensuring appropriate and high-quality health care.
- Demonstrated dedication to supporting and growing an Indigenous Australian medical practitioner workforce.
- Demonstrated ability to provide advice in relation to sensitive and often complex cultural issues in cross-cultural settings and to building the capacity of staff, students and stakeholders, to improve their engagement and partnering with Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to equity, inclusion and belonging within an Aboriginal health context.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and students.
- Ability to contribute to curriculum development and assessment strategies.
- Research experience and a desire to contribute to the evidence base for Aboriginal health.
