Market Stall Worker

Position: Market Stall Manager/Market Stall Attendant

Location: Old Bus Depot Markets, Canberra

Pay: $37.50 p/h plus super

We are looking for people to help run our stall at The Old Bus Depot Market in Kingston.

The market runs every Sunday 9:30AM-2PM.

We are seeking two people, one to set up and packdown, as well as transport stock to/from a storage cage - this will pay an additional 1.5 hours on each shift to cover these tasks. The second role is a turn up at the start of the market and go at the end of the day.

We are a small start up, we make small batch hand crafted tonic water. We've had a fantastic response to our product. Some of the key selling points are:

- Our bitter orange is the original recipe for tonic water, it's aromatic and flavorsome. It's good enough that it can actually be drunk on its own, doesn't even need the gin.
- If you or people you know aren't drinking, you can still have a drink, and feel included and not just be left with a soft drink or juice.
- It's an excellent gift. As it's non-alcoholic it can be given to anyone. You'd also be the first person to gift the tonic, instead of the gin.
- We make it as a syrup to then add to soda water. This means being able to control the strength. It also means you get a lot more in the bottle.
- Because the tonic is aromatic and made to pair with the botanicals of a London Dry gin, you can go back to the more affordable gins, the Gordons or Bombay Sapphire type gins.
- It's an excellent mixer for cocktails and there's no limit to creativity.

About the role

The lead person will be involved in the following:

- Filling soda stream bottles and carbonating before the market (all of which is provided)
- Recharging Square POS tiles and battery pack for the day
- Transporting stock and tables, equipment from a storage cage to the market (parking is provided)
- Setting up the stall
- Providing taste testers and taking the public through our four flavours
- Processing sales
- At the end of the day, packing up, and taking little plastic tasting cups home to wash and dry for the next week.
- Filling in the end of day report.

The secondary person will just be responsible for selling and processing transactions.

About you:

- Good personality and excellent communication skills
- Reliable and able to work independently
- Able to work Sundays - we want to be able to run the market continuously
- Over 18 - as this is a mixer for alcohol, you need to be over 18 to be able to speak authoritively on alcohol, and we also can't be seen to be encouraging underage drinking.
- Able to lift boxes up to 15kg~ and set up folding tables

We have been running markets ourselves, and it's a fun day. There's a lot of talking, not just about the product but also just friendly chat in general. There's a strong community spirit at the Old Bus Depot markets and we really enjoy working this market in particular.

The hourly rate on weekends is $35p/h, plus super. There is full training provided for the first two weeks, as well as a lot of support. We're growing fast and if you want to be more involved, there will be lots of opportunities coming along. We have both come from industries where people were not especially valued and are determined to be the best employers possible.
